City of Yuma Parks and Recreation, along with many volunteer members from the community, had a busy day planting trees for Arbor Day. Pecan Grove Garden Club participated by donating $500 for trees planted at Carver Park and $500 for trees planted at Somerton Park. The club also donated coloring books about trees that were given out during the Arbor Day tree plantings.

Over the years, Pecan Grove Garden Club has donated funds for many landscape projects throughout Yuma. They purchased trees for Habitat for Humanity homes, replaced nineteen damaged trees at the Yuma Crossing Park, helped Xeriscape Kennedy Public Pool and Park, Riverside Park Education Center, Kennedy Athletic Complex, and City of Yuma’s Ave. A landscaping project, to name a few.

The sale of decorative birdhouses, constructed by past club member, Sharon Jessup, and decorated by club members, was their chief fundraising project. Each year, their birdhouses were sold at the Yuma Home and Garden Show.

The club’s main goal has been donating to community projects to help “green” Yuma with additional landscaping. Their recent funding of trees for Arbor Day adds much needed trees to local parks.

Each birdhouse had a unique theme using all kinds of unusual items for decorations. Creativity is something PGGC members have!
