Following a long-time club tradition in observance of Arbor Day, Scottsdale Garden Club, working in conjunction with the city’s Parks and Recreation Dept., donated a tree to the City of Scottsdale—thereby helping Scottsdale achieve a Tree City USA designation for the 42nd year.

A planting ceremony was held on April 20 during EarthFest, which was a family-friendly exhibition of sustainability-focused, educational booths. Eight club members grabbed golden shovels and helped Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega plant a Chinese Elm at the city’s Cactus Park.

SGC’s EarthFest booth highlighted the importance of bees to the environment. Visitors were offered a chance to win a decorative basket made by club member, DeAnna Twigg, that was filled with a native bee house and other bee-related items.

The event was fun for all garden club members involved and helped emphasize the importance of trees to our environment.
