Why Blog?

A blog (short for weblog) is an informational website displaying information with the latest posts, or blogs, appearing first on the website. The AFGC Blog offers garden club members the opportunity to share information about a variety of subjects related to the goals and programs of AFGC, Pacific Region and NGC. The blogs can discuss such topics as nature, gardening, environmental issues, floral design, landscape design, wildlife, and garden club’s programs and activities.

What is a Blog?

A blog is a short article about a particular topic. It should be between 300 and 1,000 words in length. It should be be easily read in 5-10 minutes.

Blog Structure

  • Write in third person using he, she, it, or they.
  • Write a title for the blog that catches the reader’s attention.
  • Follow the title with an introductory paragraph that lures the reader into reading the entire blog.
  • Use simple sentences.
  • The main body of the blog should stick to the title’s topic.
  • Close your blog with a sentence that summarizes your main idea.
  • Do not copy text from a source word-for-word, which is plagiarizing. Rewrite the information in your own words.
  • Submit 1-4 photos with the blog and provide the photographer’s name. Do not use licensed photos from the internet. If you prefer, the blog manager will find photos to go with your blog.
  • People in your own photos must agree to have their image posted on the AFGC website. There is an NGC photo permission form for people in your photos to fill out if your club has not already had its members sign this form at the first of the year. I recommend each garden club have their members fill out the NGC Photo Permission Form at their first meeting and file them with the secretary. That way, blog writers can check with their secretary to confirm it is fine to use member’s photos in their blog.
  • Submit your blog and photo/s in jpg format, as attachments in an email sent to azgardenblog@gmail.com or to my personal email.
  • Blogs are submitted by the Blog Manager as a group on the 1st and 15th of each month. It takes at least a week or more from when the blogs are submitted until they are posted. If your blog is time sensitive, send it at least two weeks in advance of the event to make sure it is posted before the event happens.
  • The Blog Manager does not post the blogs, Salterra does.
  • AFGC is not liable for any losses or damages in connection with information contained in blogs on the AFGC blog site.
