The AFGC Greenleaf Blog is an informational website displaying posts, or blogs, written by AFGC members. The AFGC Blog offers garden club members the opportunity to share information about a variety of subjects related to the goals and programs of AFGC, Pacific Region and NGC. The blogs can discuss such topics as nature, gardening, environmental issues, floral design, landscape design, wildlife, and garden club’s programs and activities. Blogs about individual members and club events are always welcome.
A blog is a short article discussing a particular topic and should be between 300 and 500 words in length, although longer blogs are accepted. It should be short enough to be easily read in 5-10 minutes.
Blog Format
1. Write a title for the blog that catches the reader’s attention.
2. Follow the title with an introductory paragraph or sentence that lures the reader into reading the entire blog.
3. Use simple sentences.
4. The main body of the blog should stick to the title’s topic.
5. Close your blog with a sentence that summarizes your main idea.
6. Do not copy text from a source word-for-word, which is plagiarizing. Rewrite the information in your own words.
7. Submit 1-4 photos with the blog and provide the photographer’s name for each photo. Do not use licensed photos from the internet. This is illegal and may cause a lawsuit. If you prefer, the blog manager will find generic photos to go with your blog. Let her know when you submit your blog.
8. People in your own photos must agree to have their image posted on the AFGC website. There is an NGC photo permission form for people in your photos to fill out.
9. If your club has not already had its members sign a NGC photo permission form at the first of each year, I recommend members fill out the form at your first meeting and file it with the secretary. That way, blog writers can check with their secretary to confirm that it is fine to use members’ photos in their blogs. 10. Attach your blog and photo/s in jpg format in an email sent to azgardenblog@gmail.com or to my personal email.
11. The previous rule that the Blog Manager had to submit blogs only on the first and 15th of the month has stopped. Blogs can be submitted to the Blog Manager at any time and will be sent to Salterra for posting.
12. Send time sensitive blogs a minimum of one week in advance of the event to make sure they are posted before the event happens.
13. AFGC is not liable for any losses or damages in connection with information contained in blogs posted on the AFGC blog site or any photo licensing violations.
14. Each district is assigned 2 months to send in a minimum of 2 blogs for the website. Blogs can be sent during any month, however.
