The best gift I ever received came in an email, tucked in between the many emails I open every morning. It was forwarded to me from our AFGC Treasurer and read, “Just wanted to pass along this donation that was received for AFGC scholarships in memory of Jeni McCallen.”
I burst into tears because Jeni was my precious little sister who had passed away only weeks before. The tears continued to flow as I read that her husband, John McCallen, had gifted a $500 donation in her name to our AFGC Scholarship Fund. I was overcome with gratitude knowing my beautiful, little sister’s legacy would live on forever and continue to bless the lives of deserving students for generations to come.
Serving as AFGC Scholarship Chairman, I know first-hand the difference our scholarship funds can make in our Arizona students’ lives in being able to attend college or not. John’s kind and thoughtful gift touched my family deeply as a whole and has inspired each of us to do the same, regardless of how big or small our donation may be. Year-end charitable contributions can make a profound difference, too.
Thanks to our AFGC president, Jennifer Moreland, and the creation of our new Scholarship web page, donations may be made in honor of any outstanding person or in memory of a loved one with a click of a button on the AFGC Donations page.
More than ever, I have come to appreciate that helping a deserving student achieve their dreams is one of the best gifts one can give; and for me, personally, in memory of my sister, Jeni, the best gift I ever received.
