The AFGC Convention is April 27, and the Pacific Region Convention is April 28-30.

Throughout the conventions, there are eight educational breakout sessions offered on a variety of interesting topics. Below are the last four educational sessions you can attend.

Using Color Theory in Design – April 29, 2:30 pm-3:30 pm

Sue Mogan is presenting a program about using color theory when planning a flower garden, landscaping a yard, or creating a flower arrangement. Color theory is the study of how colors interact with each other and how to use color combinations to convey a mood or message. Sue is a master gardener and earned a degree in graphic design, with a focus on color theory, from Northern Illinois University. (no additional cost with PRGC convention registration)

Low Water Use Gardening – April 29, 2:30 pm-3:30 pm

Liz Lonetti, outgoing president of the Arizona Herb Association, is presenting a program about sustainable, low-water gardening in the desert southwest. Environmentally friendly gardening practices, such as the use of ollas and wicking beds, will be discussed. Ms. Lonetti will share a variety of gardening practices, from low tech to high tech, that help conserve water. (no additional cost with PRGC convention registration)

Roundtable Discussion – April 29, 8:30 am-9:45 am

Convention attendees are invited to attend a discussion to learn how garden club executive officers run their organization. There will be a question-and-answer period and time to network with other officers and members from AFGC and Pacific Region. Bring business cards to hand out as you network.

Date Palm Harvesting and Palm Pollination – April 29, 3:45 pm-4:45 pm

Deborah Thirkhill is presenting a program about the ASU Arboretum which has the largest date palm collection in the country. She will discuss the over fifty different varieties of date palms grown at the Arboretum and how they are pollinated. Pollination “bombs” will be used to pollinate a few of the date trees. (no additional cost with PRGC convention registration)
