The spring board meeting was as festive as any Fourth of July celebration. From the red, white and blue floral designs made by Lydia Reibel, to the red, white and blue balloons decorating the entry to Valley Garden Center, to Judy Kennedy’s red, white and blue abstract design that added beauty to the meeting, it was a grand celebration honoring America’s 250th birthday.
The business meeting began with reports from each AFGC officer. This was followed by district director reports which gave highlights of special events held during the year by their clubs and membership increases. Judy Kennedy, Nomination Committee Chairman, introduced president elect, Kim Rosenlof, and members in attendance voted in favor of her as upcoming AFGC president. Congrats, Kim!
Jamie Dick, AFGC Scholarship Chairman, announced the 2026 scholarship winner, Chris Butkus, who is attending NAU and is majoring in forestry. Tri-Schools Chairman, Peggy Ahola, reported on the landscape school held this year and discussed possible schools for 2027. Carol Parrott, Blue Star and Gold Star Memorials Chairman, announced that a second gold star marker will be dedicated on May 25 at the Kingman Veterans Memorial Park, sponsored by Cerbat Garden Club. Kim Rosenlof, convention co-chairman with Ann Krsiean, invited all AFGC members to attend the 2027 AFGC Convention held April 25-27 at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson.
AFGC and Pacific Region Awards were presented, and cake and sparkling cider were enjoyed by all. To end the meeting, a Memorial Service was held honoring garden club members who passed away this year. Thanks to Jen Donovan for leading the service.
Special thanks to current AFGC officers and district directors who have led our garden clubs so well this year. Special thanks to all AFGC Chairmen who continue to support AFGC programs so well.
